I follow chess tournaments quite regularly, and specially the ones in which Anand participates. I have noticed this trend with Anand in various tournaments in the last couple of years. If Anand loses an important game or makes a blunder midway in the tournament, he crumbles under pressure. He probably thinks to himself ‘how could I make that mistake?’ and that really affects his games against relatively weaker opponents. I thought I was the only one who thought that way. I read this Kasparov interview about San Luis at Chessbase and he also expresses similar thing about Anand’s performance at San Luis. I have seen the same thing at Linares earlier this year and at San Luis, he lost important game to Peter Leko (I think) from which he did not recover in the first round. He needs to improve that aspect big time or else, he is running against time to capture another world title.
